Nurse Unit Manager – Medical & Surgical

Location: Rural VIC
Hours: Permanent Fulltime, Fixed Mon-Fri
Salary: $71.92 + Super & Salary Packaging
Start Date: ASAP

Lead a 15-bed Medical and Surgical Unit, develop your team and drive excellent patient care.

You’ll oversee daily operations, coordinate patient flow and support the nursing team to deliver safe, high-quality care. This is an opportunity to shape clinical practice, strengthen team culture and improve the experience of patients throughout their admission.

This role would suit an established NUM or an experienced acute ANUM ready to take the next step.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day clinical and operational activities across the unit
• Coordinate admissions, transfers and discharges to support patient flow and bed utilisation
• Maintain high standards of medical, surgical and postoperative nursing care
• Provide visible leadership, clinical guidance and support to the nursing team
• Manage workforce planning, rostering, recruitment and skill mix
• Support staff development, performance management and clinical capability
• Lead clinical governance, incident review, risk management and quality improvement
• Work closely with medical, surgical and allied health teams to coordinate care
• Manage departmental resources, expenditure and operational performance

About You
You’re an approachable, organised leader with strong acute medical and surgical nursing experience. You’re confident managing competing priorities, supporting clinical decision-making and building a collaborative team.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated leadership experience at NUM or ANUM level within an acute hospital
• Strong medical and surgical nursing experience, including postoperative care and management of clinical deterioration
• Experience coordinating patient flow, staffing and daily ward operations
• Sound knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement and accreditation standards
• Strong communication, staff development and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
